You’ve been hearing good things about Internet phone service providers, but you just aren’t too sure. After all, VoIP Internet phone service is pretty “new fangled,” which means it can’t work all that great, right? Wrong!
Residential phone service using this technology has advanced by leaps and bounds in little time at all. In fact, most people that place Internet phone calls backed by a reputable provider can only describe the experience with one word – seamless.
A VoIP Internet phone uses voice over Internet protocol technology to drive calls. Rather than rely on antiqued phone lines, this type of service routes calls over the Internet to numbers all over the world.
When residential phone service that relies on VoIP technology is put into place, most consumers tout these benefits:
Excellent equipment – No, Internet phone calls don’t have to be placed by sitting at a screen and talking through a headset. Today’s technology relies on actual phones that provide consumers with the mobility they’ve grown accustomed to. While the exact set up can vary based on the provider, some services provide their own phones. Others, however, might enable the use of a client’s own standard home phone set up with special adapters.
Lower costs – VoIP phone provider companies can boast some of the lowest rates going. This type of service can save consumers hundreds of dollars on long distinct and local calls over the course of a year. While plans might differ, most Internet phone service users discover major savings each month.
Reliability – Internet phone calls have become extremely reliable. The downtime experienced is generally no greater than a person might experience with a regular phone service.
Internet phone calls provide the reliability, clarity and cost-effectiveness people demand. This type of service can keep people connected while saving them a lot of money in the process.

While it used to be that Internet phone calls were patchy at best, this is no longer the case. Thanks to technological advances, a VoIP phone provider can open up a world of savings for residential and business customers. Corporate clients that rely on VoIP Internet Phone service tend to be blown away by the possibilities.
Internet phone calls today are reliable, clear and distinctly affordable. When a corporate set up is created, companies will find that a VoIP Internet phone system will enable them to save money on:
Complex calling systems – VoIP Internet phone models for business provide all the multiline functioning that companies demand. Plus, many are equipped to work with voice mail and other advanced features. The exact models offered and the complexity of networks supported will vary based on the Internet phone service used, however. The best make the transition to VoIP seamless.
Basic calling – All in all, Internet phone calls even on the local level tend to be cheaper than standard carriers. Depending on the specific services require, the savings can be significant.
Long distance calls – The beauty of VoIP Internet phone service is really found when long distance calling is put into action. While these calls will still very likely cost money, the price is typically a fraction of what companies would normally pay.
More affordable in-house seamlessness – Multisite companies can often benefit from having all phones hooked into a centralized system. This means if a call comes into the Tampa office, but the help needed can be found in New York, a transfer will be seamless for customers. Rather than having to make clients call back on a different line, the right person can be contacted within the company no matter where their office happens to be located.
Just as they can save people money on residential phone service, an Internet phone service can also transform a business network. When it’s time to save money without sacrificing performance, VoIP phones do deliver.

Today’s families often find themselves scattered all over the globe. This can make staying in touch and keeping up with events of importance costly to say the least. When a better way to stay connected is needed, Internet phone calls can make family time on the line more affordable.
A VoIP Internet phone backed up by a reputable VoIP provider can be an excellent choice for residential phone service. While plans can vary, it is almost a hands-down definite that Internet phone service will cost families less. The benefits of going with a VoIP Internet phone today include:
Greater convenience – While Internet phone calls used to demand that all parties remain seated at their computers, newer VoIP phones are just like standard telephones. This means it’s possible to get up, walk around and enjoy the freedom of cordless while still using an Internet phone service.
Improved accessibility – VoIP phone provider companies are very easy to find. While it used to take an act of congress to locate a viable alternative to standard phone service, this is just not the case any longer. This type of service is offered just about anywhere a broadband connection can be enjoyed.
Lower pricing – Internet phone calls backed up by a service provider will come at a charge. In many cases, however, long distance rates are next to nothing or sometimes nothing at all. When the Internet is used as the route through for a phone call, it’s feasible to talk for hours to a relative half way around the world any only spend a pittance.
Internet phone calls take the financial bite out of staying in touch. While a good service will come at a price, it’s a fraction of what standard carriers will charge. This can be very important for helping families save their pennies for actual face-to-face reunions.

In the last post we discussed first and foremost the basics of human nature – our propensity to shy away from those things that we don’t understand and to delay change for as long as possible. Depending on the generation to which we belong technological change is either something to which we have grown accustomed or something that fills us with trepidation and even outright terror. This period of time has most certainly seen huge changes in technology; once we embrace one thing the world has moved onto something else entirely.
VoIP Internet phone is something that has grown tremendously in popularity; another option for residential phone service that utilizes the Internet connection that most of us have in our homes today. But that doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been a huge segment of the population that has been hesitant – or even averse – to choosing Internet phone service because of the learning curve that they assume to be present. In the last post we began to clear up some of the misconceptions about VoIP Internet phone service including the fact that the mechanics of the phone call do not change, there is no need for expensive, complicated equipment, and voice quality is the same if not better.
Some other points of interest about VoIP Internet phone service include:
• There is choice. Internet phone service does not mean that you have to conduct your phone calls through the computer. But it does mean you have the choice. Either pick up your regular phone to conduct a call or – because the phone is routed through Internet service – have a conversation at your keyboard while on your headset.
• Yes – More services. As you would probably expect, because this kind of residential phone service is routed through the computer, there are many additional features available to users; including the ability to check voicemail online and to answer a voicemail message with an email. But that’s not all – from on-hold music to conference call capabilities, there is much that is offered through VoIP service.
• It’s not more expensive than traditional residential phone service. One of the great things about VoIP service is the ability it gives you to save money because of the ability to package services and establish a local number that you take with you on the road – making even long distance calls more affordable through the computer.

Human nature is to resist change; regardless of how passionately we may eventually embrace it. When the Internet came along you can bet there were just as many people who ran fast in the opposite direction as there were those who happily sat down at their keyboards to get online. We tend to shy away from those things that we do not understand; they just appear different and different looks frightening and that’s the end of that until whatever it is becomes mainstream and so widely accepted that we are comfortable enough adopting it ourselves.
Right now Internet phone service sits squarely in the gray area. There are certainly many who have already jumped on the bandwagon of VoIP for their residential phone service – appreciating the many benefits that such a service brings to the table. But there are just as many consumers who have traditional residential phone service and are hesitant about Internet phone service because they do not know enough about it and consider it be something of a risk. And so, here are some points of interest, so to speak, about VoIP Internet phone service:
• The “mechanics” of a phone call do not change. Having Internet phone service only means that the phone call is routed over a computer network – through an Internet connection. So the action of making a phone call and receiving a phone call does not change. You can still use the phone you have been using, the phone still rings, and there is still the dial tone you are used to hearing when you pick up the phone. However, one of the benefits of some VoIP service is the ability to make or receive a phone call – if you wish – through your actual computer while you wear a headset.
• There is no need for complicated, expensive equipment. All that is required for VoIP Internet phone service is a high speed Internet connection.
• Voice quality is not compromised. In fact, most VoIP residential phone service customers find the voice quality to be just as good, if not better, than their traditional residential phone service.

Voip Internet Phone
In the last post I talked about my growing frustration with my mounting and ever-confusing residential phone service bill; the frustration that eventually led me to give up entirely and consider something completely different in the way of phone service – VoIP Internet phone.
I had been going around in circles for years – signing up for contracts that I thought would allow me to have a consistent phone bill each and every month and for which I would understand each detailed service. And that was the case for a few months each time. But then, eventually, the bill would begin to grow again and I would find myself facing charges I didn’t expect and couldn’t understand. Like most people in this society I am busier than I would like to be and sitting down to figure out my phone bill was last on my list of priorities to say the least; so I would just pay it and vow to go over it later.
Later never came until recently when I had had enough and was ready to take control of all of my utility bills including residential phone service. Through some research online where I went to learn about some plans that were available to me through traditional service I found out about VoIP Internet phone. Within a day I had signed up to receive service.
Internet phone service routes calls through an Internet connection rather than through the ground wiring that has been the norm until now. What VoIP Internet phone service provides its customers is not only superior voice quality but also the affordability that comes with bundling services. Everything is routed through the Internet and so the features that you have come to expect online are applied to our phone service. I can check voicemail online and even respond with email, utilize my local phone number and make and receive phone calls through my Internet connection – and my laptop - anywhere I am in the country, and have enjoyed so many more services than I ever had with my traditional phone service. Not to mention that my bill is a snap to read and I know what to expect each and every month!

There is nothing more enraging to the average consumer than having to decipher a bill that is already too high. Every time my phone bill would come in the mail I would be filled with dread. I knew that the total would be high; higher than I would have ever expected to pay (and seeming to grow by the month) and certainly much higher than I had agreed to pay when I first signed up for this particular phone plan. Why was it that I was quoted one price and then steadily began to pay more and more until the original quote was lost under nickels and dimes? I almost felt that the company depended upon consumers like me – tired, overworked, and pressed for time – simply giving up at a certain point and just paying their bill, not bothering to check if all of the charges were legitimate or in keeping with their original plan.
This is how I went about business until one month when, in a state of crazed organization, I decided to tackle the mystery of my residential phone service once and for all. I honestly thought that this would entail lengthy phone conversations with my phone provider and possibly a renegotiation of a phone service contract. But when I went online to find answers to some of my specific questions I learned about Internet phone service.
In my research I found that I had choices beyond the traditional residential phone service. VoIP Internet phone service was a manner in which I could continue to have a landline so to speak but the service would be routed through my Internet connection rather than through traditional ground wiring. And the benefits, features, and affordability were something that I could not ignore. More to come in the next post…

In my last post I confessed my inability to get around all things technological. I am a proud member of the generation that has dragged its feet behind all of the newest and the greatest things, feeling far more comfortable with the old and worn. The pattern was always the same. I would begrudgingly integrate particular technology into my life after much cajoling from my family and much pressure from the world at large. And once I acquiesced I would find myself hopelessly behind the times almost immediately. I could just never catch up with it all.
The latest of my submissions to technology was the installation of a computer with an Internet connection in my home. This was a battle I waged for a long time. My kids had access to a computer but I didn’t have one and I had barely touched one prior to it entering my home. But once it was here and I pranced around it for a few weeks, I was hooked on it. After I was fully comfortable online I was presented with another hurdle – VoIP Internet phone service.
I had never known anything but my traditional residential phone service; didn’t know anything else existed. But my family introduced me to Internet phone service and, for once, I was ready to jump in with both feet.
Honestly, nothing changed that I could see. The phone was plugged into a router that accesses my computer connection. The phone still rings the same as it always did and I don’t notice anything different in terms of being able to make and receive phone calls. But I did notice the reduction in price on my phone bill and I for sure noticed all the features I got with Internet phone calls – everything from being able to check my voicemail messages online to having on-hold music for my call waiting feature. With VoIP Internet phone service I am finally embracing modern technology with enthusiasm.

Internet Phone Calls
Here is my confession: anything and everything about the Internet scares the living daylights out of me. I am of the generation that is so technologically guarded that it took the better part of a year for me to adjust to my DVD player in lieu of the VHS with which I had grown very chummy (after a rocky start). I am not what anyone would call adventurous in any way and even less so when it comes to things I simply do not understand; and the Internet most definitely falls into that category.
So you can imagine what a scene it was to even get a computer into this house. I mean, I knew we needed to have one; the whole world was passing us by as my children were quick to point out and my husband would just shake his head completely in awe of my own paralyzing fear. So when the Internet came to town I was wary and then guarded and then slowly, slowly the ice melted until I was able to approach the computer with something less than disdain and fear.
Once I got hooked on getting online it had me and we have been fast friends ever since. I didn’t understand why that just couldn’t be enough for it. But no; it wanted me to consider something else – residential phone service. I had no idea that there was any other option for phone service than the phone that was connected to my wall and was routed somewhere I could not see. But it turned out that there was something called VoIP Internet phone service and it meant that the phone would stay there and the routing would happen somewhere else I couldn’t see. Confusing. But I was up to the challenge and ready to learn about Internet phone service. More to come…

Internet Phone Calls, Internet Phone Service
I remember what it was like to be a teenager and how important my phone was to me. In the early years, I would spend hours wrapped in the cord (remember those) of my parents’ house phone talking and giggling with girlfriends. Later, after I had long exhausted their patience, my parents broken down and got me my very own phone line for my bedroom where I would spend hours wrapped in that phone cord or under the covers in my bed talking long after I was supposed to be asleep. I really loved that phone.
Nothing has changed about the connection of teenagers to their phones except the phones themselves. There are no more cords; today’s kids are outfitted with take along phones – their cell phones with all the bells and whistles that allow them to talk wherever they are, take pictures, text, and even surf the web.
So immersed in this technology are they that teenagers have become far smarter than the rest of us, technologically speaking. And it was from my teenage daughter that I first learned of VoIP Internet phone service. She could not for the life of her understand why we still had a – gasp – ground phone line. I had no idea what she was talking about. What other phone line could there possibly be?
She schooled me quickly on the ins and outs of Internet phone service. With our Internet connection finally firmly ensconced in our home (something that took us quite some time to the utter embarrassment of our kids) we could easily set up Internet phone service.
With my daughter’s guidance I called a VoIP phone provider who got me established with everything that I needed to change my residential phone service to VoIP. See? Sometimes old dogs can learn new tricks!
